Staff at the Fencing bear inn are friendly, professional. The rooms are awesome and the location is perfect. All in all best decision I made this trip.

The Dancing Bear was an absolute delight to stay at! Will definitely book here any time I pass through Nelson, which will be more often because of the experiences I've had at the Bear. Few other hostels strike the delicate balance of clean updated spaces and comfortable, warm character. The inviting living room is a great place for both interaction and solitude. Decor is fun, and they are super helpful about things to do and places to go! AND to my delight, finally a hostel with PROPER COAT HANGERS! Strong board game selection and very respectful. Will be back!

Stolen red onion and out of the way basement kitchen aside, the Dancing Bear has such a cozy nourishing common room that's so conducive to a social atmosphere, full of backcountry excursion plans and anecdotes being hashed out and revised. Nice bookshelf and gorgeous panaromas of the Valhallas tempting spontaneous new plans. Really really lovely. : )

Clean, professional, excellent kitchen and hostel setup. Centrally located and cozy! Only downside is limited private parking.

Im 99% sure I was sexually assaulted while I slept in the female dorm second week of August. My only proof is waking up pantiless and sore vagina for 2 weeks. I kept asking if there was a man staying in the room they keep insisting not. Unsafe situation that I can never feel safe in any hostel now I need to start getting private hotel rooms.
